I have vista on my comp,I created a partition to install XP,but using an original disk,I found that the top option on the welcome to xp disk (install xp) was greyed out,so I colud not install it,a friend lent me his copy of  xp only for the same thing to happen,A solution would be very welcome!

Go into BIOS and change the boot order so that Windows will boot from CD before the hard drive.  Then boot from the Windows XP install CD.  You'll see the two partitions that you created.  BE CAREFUL.  Don't install over your Vista partition.

that installing XP my way might break the Vista bootloader.
