Computer Q&A Board  /  Questions  /  New motherboard not booting/starting.

Hey everyone. I recently purchased an Intel DG41RQ essential series motherboard for my latest PC build. I've heard that it is possible to connect the components to a motherboard such as HDD, disc drive and fans and have it send out power to each device without RAM and CPU. My current dilemma is that I've tried this test without RAM and CPU, and the unit is not starting with adequate power. The LED indicator on the board shows it is receiving power. I tried getting the unit to start by shorting the front panel connections. Didn't work. I created a closed circuit on the ATX 20-pin between the green and black ground. Everything comes on but as soon as I break the circuit connection, it all dies. Could the simple fact that I have not installed RAM, CPU and CPU Fan possibly be causing the mobo to revert from booting up? Could it be the motherboard? I have no idea.

I guess that you can put the RAM, CPU, and CPU Fan in and find out.  My guess is that it will work when you put them in, but I don't know because I have never tried it without them in.
