Computer Q&A Board  /  Questions  /  Unwanted Downloads

Each time I access Google various Pdf files start to download
no indication is given as to there content or origin.

None of the files can be opened and I cannot even find where they are stored
on my computer,
the only thing that I can point to is, this problem appears to have occurred after
downloading a map via Google.

In most cases I am unable to access what i have typed into Google until these Pdf files
have completed there download.

I would be most obliged if someone can help me to sort this problem out
prior to doing a system format as a last resort.

Thanking You.

Harry.

Hello Harry,
While I haven't come across that problem with Google I have encountered something similar such as a Registry cleaning program that kept on trying to download and install itself after a screen message that it had scanned my PC, (without asking me first by the way!).

I suggest you download and run PestPatrol and/or AdAware to clean out any 'nasty' cookies etc that may be in your system. There are free versions of both programs that I have found quite adequate for the job. You will get these utilities at:
http://www.lavasoft.com/ and http://pestpatrol.com/

God luck,
Dickiesam

The problem that dickiesam is describing is not a problem with cookies but a problem with popups.  There are many free popup blockers out there.  Many of the browser toolbar add-ons come with popup blockers.
I do not know if that is the same problem that haroldbld is having.  Haroldbld's problems sounds to me that it could be a virus.
