Computer Q&A Board / Questions / Track CPU usage

Does anyone know of a program that can track CPU uaage. From time to time on my computers they will be runnning very slow . I have found that if I do a CTL/Alt/Delete nothing in the Application Tab is running, but when looking at the Performance Tab, CPU performance will be at 100%. Obviously when the CPU utilization goes down then things are back to normal. For me it does no good to look at the Processes Tab, because it does not seem to indicate what is consuming all the CPU time.

In Task Manager (CTL/Alt/Delete) click on the Processes and look at the CPU & Men Usage Headings.

You can also try (freeware) Process Explorer, made by SysInternals. Sysinternals is now owned by MicroSoft. A search with e.g. "process explorer sysinternals" will get you to the appropriate Microsoft page(s) easily. I find Process Explorer easier to use than the normal Task Manager. PE can be made to replace Task Manager, i.e., Ctrl + Alt + Del will then start Process Explorer instead of Task Manager.

Thanks, I will try this if Task Manager does not give me the info. When it is locked at 100% CPU its hard to get anything running--even Task Mgr.

I had the same problem with my computer and took it to the shop and they had to uninstall and reinstall my PcCillin virus software and it fixed the problem. If I had known that I could have fixed it myself.
