Hi there,I recently brought 2 seagate barracuda 750gig hard drives. They were factory re-certified and cost 68 bucks each. The first was formatted on a USB external ,and worked fine..I switched and put in the second for format, but this time my laptop froze some hours into the operation..After a hard re-boot the drive was no longer recognized..I plugged it into my tower XP system, and it would not boot with it plugged in the USB port!.So I plugged after it booted and it is there in disc management,I managed to delete content, but the format will start ,but eventually I get the aplet,"windows cannot complete this operation"..It causes the computer to be buggy when plugged in,and I have tried various software tools,to no avail..The drive spins normally but makes a light clicking noise, frequently every few seconds..I have heard of drives failing like this, but has anyone ever fixed a drive in this state..PS I am going western digital, new ,from now on,as its not worth the strife of a drive malfunction. Thanks stef. >:( 8) :)

Go to the Seagate website and download the diagnostic software-SeaTools.
This should tell you if the drive is salvagable.
