Computer Q&A Board / Questions / safe mode

Evidently I was hit with something that affected IE. when I click on IE a Comcast page comes up and spoofs any address I put in the address line. if I open a new tab with a different address, the same page comes up and the address is similar to what I entered, I cannot get rid of this page. I discovered that if I boot in "safe mode" I can get onto the internet. where do I go from here to find out what file I need to delete? I already stopped everything in "startup" which didn't help. where can I see a list of files that are not running in "safe mode?
any help will be appreciated

Hi Harry
as I think you know, you've got a browser hijack. The answer is to go here:
http://www.download.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.htmland get HiJackThis. It is the definitive programme for this type of problem. Run it and then either submit the log file to the forum, or let us some other expert see it. I've used it many times on friend's computers to solve these problems very successfully.

I would suggest getting an antivirus program and running it. There are several free antivirus programs. One that I have had success with is Avast.
