Computer Q&A Board  /  Questions  /  User icon in WinXP

This is hardly earthshaking, but it's driving me batty.  A few weeks ago my system stopped displaying my image of choice (a small bmp) on the XP login screen and has refused to ever since.  What's more, when I've tried changing just to one of the default images supplied with XP, it won't save those either, other than the chess pieces.  Whatever I try to choose, I end up with the chess pieces image.

I've tried a number of tweaking and config programs for XP but had no luck with any of them.  Even when the system will tell me my (new) choice has been saved, at the next login or boot it's back to the chess pieces.  I'd like to be able to reset my user settings so as to see my preferred image again.

Any ideas?

Thanks! :)

FWIW, only a Win XP reinstallation fixed the problem.  (I didn't reinstall because of that, but because the file system got all mucked up.  But when I did, I got normal behavior back again so far as the user icon goes.)

It just seemed to be that there should be a registry key somewhere that holds that filename.

Look in

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\User Account Pictures

Check Username.bmp and Adminstrator.bmp

Windows uses these bitmaps on the logon window.
