Computer Q&A Board / Questions / Sony D22A will not read CDs (will read DVD)

My Sony DW-D22A will not read any CDs - it doesn't even recognize that disk is in drive. It will read a DVD. I have tried updating firmware (BYS2, BYS3 and also to the Sony 710 - BYX2, 3 ,4, and 5 versions). None have made any difference. This drive is over 2 years old and has worked perfectly until recently when I reformatted my drive and reinstalled Win XP pro to get rid of junk, adware, kids games, etc.) I have a ASUS A8V.

WinXP does have problems like that with the CD drive. I have not figured out a solution to it except just to wait and in time it will start working again.

Go into Device Manager and uninstall the drive then right click and select Scan for Hardware Changes
Of course you did install your motherboard drivers didn't you?
