Computer Q&A Board  /  Questions  /  digital camera will not open certain program

Can any one tell me how I can get my digital camera to open a certain program once it is connected to my pc. I want the camera to open a program that is not listed in the event list when it is connected to my pc. How can a program be added to the event list. I could choose to have the camera do nothing when it is connected or I could always be prompted to choose a program to open but the program that I would like to use is not listed nor are any options of browsing for the program myself. I am running Windows XP (SP 3) with no problems I might add. If anyone has a solution for this I would really appreciate it. Thanks. :)

Try this after connecting your camera via the USB cable:-
Open My Computer and right-click on your camera icon and select properties. In the open properties window click on the events tab. In the Events window  select the Camera connected event and the choose the appropriate program in the actions box.
Best of luck and please post if this solves your problem

I did what you suggested but the program that I need to use is still not listed in the event list. Is there any way of adding a program to the event list so that when the camera is connected that program will start. Thanks.

You may want to start from your desired program, and see if it can 'see' your camera. Assuming it is connected to your PC by a USB[2] port, the program should allow you to open that port. You can also change the file types associated with programs, changing the file type of your camera files to be opened with your desired program.
What program are you using, and what is your OS (Win 2000, Win XP, Vista, etc.)?
