Couldn't find this earlier, but I have a problem with System Restore on Win XP Professional......

When I try to revert to a previous Restore Point, I always get the message that "cannot restore" to the selected restore point.  No explanation given. Picking all restore points gives the same result. Even if I set a restore point manually and later try to restore to that point, it doesn't work......this has been going on for some time, but I thought I would give the expert a shot.  Tried Reg Vac, Spy Bot, Adaware, etc. nothing helps......any ideas??

Thought I would try.  I was hoping there was a known problem.....I have the knack for having errors no one else has seen!!  Thanks anyway!

Maybe someone else knows the answer.  I don't know everything.  I have heard of problems with System Restore.

Save yourself some grief.  I gave  up on System Restore long ago.  It is not reliable, as you have discovered.  Get Acronis or some similar drive backup program and use it regularly.

It didn't work for me either. I thought it was just me being useless! I use Acronis, which seems pretty good.

Don't forget WinRescue. I've been saved from unwise installs a number of times.
Get it at the RegVac site. No Ray did not prompt me to say this. I 've been using WinRescue since Win98 and it has saved my skin many times.

see discussion thread on "SYSTEM RESTORE doesn't restore" during February 2008 in this forum! - http://www.regvac.com/forum/m-1201984976/

Note the comments about Norton's and the comment about running system restore in the safe mode.

My System restore has never  worked either, I've reinstalled Windows a few times and tried every solution I could read about but to no avail, I think I'm going to use one of my TechNet Support Tickets to get a solution before they expire next week, when and if they can get it to work I'll be sure to share the solution with everyone. :-/
