Hi
I have  just bought a laptop computer running Windows XP Pro. (it came with Vista  but I took it off)When it starts it hangs at the Windows XP Logo for about 55secs before going to the welcome screen. Is this normal for a laptop?

A little longer than normal, but more a function of installed memory and CPU speed. A bloated registry, old/bad drivers etc. can also cause this to occur.

   It also could be something like the network setting things up.

Thanks for the reply.
I don't think its a bloated registry as I regularly clean that out and have 2 gig of memory.  I have just networked it to my desktop computer through a router.so Could this be the cause?

   If you have the TCP/IP settings set to configure themselves automatically (which is how mine are and most people's are), that could be causing the delay.

   You can configure a manual IP address of 90.0.0.1 (you can put whatever numbers you want as long as each one is between 0 and 255) and a default subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. The other computers on your network each can use a different IP address in the same class, such as 90.0.0.2, 90.0.0.3, 90.0.0.4, and so on. This way, each computer has a permanent IP address. Note that if you change the IP addresses of your computers, they must all use the same subnet mask.
