Computer Q&A Board  /  WinRescue  /  WinRescue Writes to Wrong Drive
Posted by: pschonstrom, February 9th, 2008, 3:39am
I recently downloaded and purchased WinRescue V. 1.08.38 3/5/2007.  When I try to write any of the backup files that I created, despite the fact that I have specified drive F:\ on the settings tab, the program tries to write to drive D:\.  Properties of F:\ include recording CDs; D:\ does have a writing capability but it is off in Properties.

In addition, when I insert a CD into either D:\ or F:\, a Windows Explorer Search Window pops up for me to run a  search on the disk that was just put into the drive.  I don't know if the two issues are related.

Perhaps someone will know what is going on.

Thanks

The problem is that the two drives are switched.
WinRescue cannot always properly detect which CD drive is which.  When WinRescue cannot figure out what the drive letter of the drive is, it defaults to the drive specified on the CD Format tab of Backup Properties in WinRescue.  So if you go to the CD Format tab and specify the drive you want to backup to (F), it should work.
The drive letter in the list of CD Format should show the drive letter as a question mark (?).  This indicates that Vista is not listing the drive letter.  By specifying the drive in CD Format, WinRescue uses other indicators to specify the drive.
