Does anyone have an idea of what might be happening with my coputer. I have an HP with both a cd rom and a DVD player. I am trying to copy some video files from my computer to either of these units. The CD rom player does not identify  the brand new CD-R disks I have nor does the DVD Player recognize anyo the the brand new DVD-R disks i plave in the drive. I can not copy anything to thses drives even though the disks are the correct type and the files are not too large. I get error messages that say Please place a disk into the drive. They don't recognize that there is anything in the drive. Anyone have any idea of what I might do? Could use some help. Thanks.

Never a simple problem with CDs. For a start try the following in order.
Check the Device Manager to make sure that they are no yellow question marks against your CD and DVD drives.
Make sure you have the latest firmware installed.
In Device Manager uninstall the drive and reboot.
The best of luck

I have experienced a bug in WinXP that does that.  Software writing to the CD seem to initiate that condition.  I never figured a way around it but just to wait a few days.
