My graphics card site instructs me to install drivers manually through device manager and and tells me not to use the "found new hardware" wizard. Any idea why?
Win XP home sp2
Thanks for your input

When you install drivers with the device manager you can choose the location of your new drivers.  The found hardware Wizard will naturally default to existing old drivers and you will have to take several steps to force it to the location of your choice.
The safest method of installing new drivers is to: --
Uninstall the old drivers from add remove programs.
Reboot into safe mode. Cancel out the "found new hardware Wizard and use a program such as Drive Cleaner Pro to remove all traces of prior driver install.
Reboot.
Cancel out the "found new hardware Wizard" and execute the new driver installation program.

Thank you for the reply. I have run Driver Cleaner in safe mode to ferret out all vestiges of the old driver, and then followed it with Regvac. I guess the object is to absolutely not infect the new driver with registry remenants of the old. Am I correct in that?
Thanks again.
