Computer Q&A Board  /  WinRescue  /  cannot write to resray.ini in WinRescue Vista

WinRescue Vista installs under Vista Ultimate - in my user account. However, when run, it fails with error "cannot write to resray.ini." My attempts to alter permissions and file attributes doesn't fix the problem. Can anyone offer any suggestions. Thank you.

Check the file attributes and the attributes of the directory that it is in.  If they are Read-only, uncheck it.

I've done that several times, and the attributes always revert to read only. More specifically, resray.ini can be made not read only, but the directory under program files, ie WinRescue Vista always remains read only.
Thanks.

That is the way that Vista behaves (the file can have read-only taken off but the folder always reverts back to read-only).  In that case, the folder being read-only does not prevent the file from being written to.
If you are still getting the error about not being able to write to resray.ini, you need to figure out why that is.  Other possibilities are that the drive does not allow changes (like a CD drive) or you do not have permission to make changes to files.  Something on your computer is preventing WinRescue from writing to that file.  Find out what it is and you will be able to fix that problem.
