Computer Q&A Board  /  Speed Startup  /  Volume Control Icon in Systray
Posted by: boboh7, November 4th, 2007, 8:53am
Hi, I own RegVac, Speed Start, Win Rescue and A1 PC Cleaner and subscribe to Ray's Computer Tips. I have a PC with XP SP2.

I want to have a volume control icon always in my systray.

I can put one there with: Start/Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices - & then check and enter "Place Volume Control in the Taskbar"; however it disappears when I shut down and later restart.

Is there a way I can keep the volume control from leaving systray?

Thanks

Right click on Start button
Click on Properties
Click on Taskbar
Click on Customise
Select volume
Select 'Always Show'

Thanks for the reply. However, that did not work for me.

When I now right click Start/click on Properties/ click on Taskbar tab/ Click on Customise, I see Volume with "always show" in the Past Items (and therefor Hidden) List.

To un-gray "Customise" I must click on (check) Hide inactive icons.

I have also tried unchecking Hide inactive items on the way out after marking Volume as Always Show and the volume icon still disappears from the systray on restart.

Color Me Frustrated

The earliest versions of Speed Startup removed a startup item called SysTray which would cause problems like that.  Look in Speed Startup in the Contents - All Items section for SysTray.  If you find it there, select it and then click on the Restore button.  Hopefully, that will solve your problem.

Thanks for the reply Ray,

In my Speed Startup the systray item was already in the "Lineup" so that's not the source of my problem.

It should not be in the Lineup.  Please follow the instructions that I gave in the previous post.
