Computer Q&A Board / Internet / INTERNET EXPLORER STOPS WORKING
Posted by: Wychwar, November 2nd, 2007, 11:28am
When I connect to the internet using Internet Explorer 7 my CPU usage (as shown on Task Manager) shoots up to 100% and IE either refuses to work or is very slow. I usually use the "End Program" feature on Task Manager to shut down. Motzilla Firefox works OK as does my BT Yahoo: Broadband connection. Any ideas on how to repair IE7?

I have found IE7 has a huge amount of memory leakage. Open and minimize task manager then check it periodically as you use IE7. You will be using more and more RAM. Once you run out of RAM and starting using virtual memory on your harddrive your computer will run slower. IE7 bogged me down with 512 MB RAM. With 2 GB it runs ok.

Thanks Waterwall,
I think I have cured the problem. I ran all my security software which generally found no problems. I then used System Mechanic 6 which cleared out a lot of junk. The problem still persisted so I uninstalled Google Toolbar. This was showing as "google toolbar not" in the Task Manager processes. I am not sure whether the "not" bit was "not responding" but uninstalling cured the problem. I noticed that I had two Google toolbars one for Internet Explorer and one for Firefox. The one in Firefox is still in place. Firfowx has always worked O.K.
