Computer Q&A Board / Speed Startup / Speed Startup cannot create win.ini
Posted by: awgo, October 2nd, 2007, 1:51pm
After starting Speed Startup the following message appears: "Cannot create file C:\Windows\win.ini. The program stops, but continues and works fine after removing the message. What can I do to prevent this message?

My guess is that somehow the win.ini file has been set to read-only.
To fix that, open Windows Explorer (right click on the Start button and select Explore from the popup menu), find the win.ini file in Windows Explorer, right click on it and select Properties from the popup menu. Then uncheck the Read-only checkbox and click on the OK button. That should do it.

It turned out that the directory c:\windows was 'read-only'. I changed that and the message didn't appear. I hope that I didn't change to much :o Thank you Ray!
