Computer Q&A Board / Other Computer Problems / HDD & DVD burner activity LED's stay lit
Posted by: waterwall, July 17th, 2007, 2:42am
The HDD and DVD burner LED's stay lit continuously whenever the MOBO is powered. The front power button can be off, or the computer can be in hibernate or standby. When the OS is up and running though the LED's operate as expected. If it wasn't for my computer's random freezes (another topic) I would not be too concerned. But I don't know if there is a connection - or maybe this a peculiarity of this board (?) I know these drives are not running because the machine is dead silent.
Abit AN8 SLI, SOCKET 939 AMD dual core Manchester, 2 GB dual channel RAM, Seagate 160 GB SATA 300 HDD, Sony (PATA, on secondary channel) DVD-RAM
Not running SLI.
Thanks for any help!

My guess would be that it is the way the motherboard behaves. I have never heard of that. Maybe a look at the manufacturer's website or the manual would shed some light on it.
Another possibility, though unlikely, would be that there are some crossed wires somewhere. If you suspect this, take the cover off the computer and take a look.

Ray, thanks for the reply. I double checked the wiring. The MOBO manual mentions nothing about this, and Abit's website has a forum I queried, but that turned up nothing.
Do any of you other folks have Abit boards that do this? Maybe it's just the nature of the beast.
