Computer Q&A Board  /  RegVac  /  RegVac stops in Vista
Posted by: peverhoe, July 1st, 2007, 10:23am
I try to run and use Regvac on my Sony Vaio Computer with Vista home premium, but it stops while scanning (has aleady found some 200 items at that time). i paused my internet security program.

Is this because the program is not ready for Vista ?? What else could be the reason ?/

Actually, RegVac is still working.  If you let it continue, it will eventually finish.
The problem is with Vista.  Vista takes up a lot of space and does not leave very much room for other programs to use and so RegVac takes longer to run.
Another thing that Vista does (which contributes to this problem) is that it regularly calls each of the programs running and asks them to respond back to it.  RegVac does not respond back because it is busy working.  When it doesn't respond back, Vista gives you that error.  In previous versions of Windows, Windows does not call other programs unless you initiate the call.
It may help to close all other programs which are running.  If you have Vista on a smaller computer, there may not be much that you can do.  Vista was made to be run on the latest and greatest computers and not on older, smaller ones.

::)
Than I cannot use it Ray. I closed all my programs, closed my Internet security. Had it run for a long time. The message " program will be closed" remains and even if I click on remove errors in the program it shutsa completely off. I downloaded the trial version, have to take it off mty computer if you have no other soliutiuon.

It has found over 380 errors when it shuts off - like to clean these as you will understand

On trhe other hand your A1 cleaner is great !

I have a new Vaio computer with  2Gb internal and T5500 processor. If you have a clue let me know otherwise I will remove it.

Hi all,

Have you tried running Reg Vac in safe mode ?  I do not own Vista myself for now, but I read on the forums that safe mode is still available in Vista... I think it is worth a trial don't you?

Have a great day

Ohhh....

I am sorry, I assumed you would know how to enter safe mode.

you have 2 options to get into safe mode :
1) is to press F8 as soon as the computer starts ( I would say every half a second).... if you see "loading Vista" you are too late in the booting sequence, reboot and try again
2) the second way to enter safe mode is to go via msconfig.  You go in MSconfig by doing
start
run
type msconfig ok
select the radio button "diagnostic startup", press ok
and make sure that you computers reboot.
then run reg vac
afterward, redo this procedure with the msconfig but select "normal startup"

hope this helps,

goodnight from Canada

This has been fixed in the more recent versions of RegVac.
