My cd drive suddenly disappeared from my computer. I tried a couple of restores but no luck. I have an HP 7935, XP/SP2. It has a floppy drive that is still working.

Does the CD drive appear in device manager?
Is it recognized by the BIOS?
This problem can show up if you have uninstalled CD writing software, such as Roxio or Nero.
Could be either a software or hardware problem, so more information is needed. :)

I did not uninstall software. The drive did not appear in the device manager. Don't know about bios. Don't know what bios is.
The machine froze and I had to pull the plug. When it came qack up, the cd drive was present.
