Computer Q&A Board / Windows / Compress Old Files in Windows Disk Cleanup
Posted by: william, May 3rd, 2007, 7:44pm
In Windows Disk Cleaanup, I show 184,195 K in Compress Old Files box that will not clean. I have tried everything I know but no luck. I'm sure it must slow my system down a bit, not to mention it frustrates the heck out of me. Can anyone help please ?

its my understanding thats how much space you would save if you compressed your hard drive. nothing really to worry about but if it bothers you do this:
- 1. Type Regedit in Start - Run
- 2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Volume Caches
- 3. Expand the Volume Caches folder and select the "Compress Old Files" folder
- 4. Delete all entries in the Compress Old Files folder
- 5. Reboot
- 6. Run Disk Cleanup and you wont see the compress old files anymore.
