Look at the manufacturer listing and also the command listing.
Between the two, you should be able to identify the program that is putting itself in the startup folder.
The only programs that absolutely have to be running at startup are those you plan to use immediately or those you have installed for protection [antivirus, firewall, UPS (battery backup)].

Note that you can widen the columns in each category by clicking on the dividing lines in the headings and dragging them until you can see the full listing under each heading.

I recommend Ray's SpeedStartup (this is an unsolicited plug). You can try moving different start-up programs to manual or do-not-start status. If you don't encounter problems, you can leave the start-up item in manual (in case you later find you need it).
I have one item none of the anti-virus or anti-spam programs could delete. I moved it into 'do not start' and have had no problems with it since.

In MSCONFIG - I leave any listing that has "system" or "Windows" in the description.  I have deleted "program" files that I felt I did not need and have not experienced problems.  Still be careful. Make that backup first.

if you wanna know what they are you could google them. if you have that manny things starting up with windows your computer takes longer to boot. next time you install windows do this: do a fresh install then install your antivirus of choice, next go to msconfig and see whats running, while your are there take a screen shot, after a few months if you notice boot times getting longer go to msconfig and take a screen shot , compare it to the fresh install one and kill what does not match up
