Computer Q&A Board / Windows / hibernate, slow wake up

Computer works perfect except takes 5-6 min. to wake up. Windows XP SP2 with all updates, McAfee, Zone Alarm, also usually a little bit of activity on hard drive (disabled indexing) Sometimes shuts down before waking up so have to start over. Did disable most start up programs.

The number of startup programs has no effect on the speed of waking up from hibernation. It has more to do with what was running when you went into hibernation. I would think that Zone Alarm and McAfee have some influence.
Waking up from hibernation does not even touch the startup items because it is not restarting Windows. Instead it is loading into memory what was on the computer when you hibernated. Some of the programs detect that they have been in hibernation and so refresh themselves which may take some time. Also hooking back up to the internet if you have cable or DNS can take some time after being in hibernation.
