Computer Q&A Board  /  Windows  /  QuickLaunch Icons Disordered

:'( Some time ago we had a discussion on this forum about fixing the order of QuickLaunch icons and we eventually came up with the answer.

Unfortunately the same problem has arisen again. I have looked through the forum archives but I cannot trace the original posts.

Does anyone recall these posts or alternatively recall what the solution was?

When you do a search, you need to make sure that you set all of the settings before doing the search.  For example, you have to select the areas that you want to search (the default is only in the Questions section) and you need to select the date of the post (the default is 30 days ago or newer).

I did a search for Quick Launch and I found a post called Order of icons in Quick Launch at http://www.regvac.com/forum/m-1140104674/

Thank you for finding the link! :)

To put everything in a nutshell the remedy is .....

"Use RegEdit to go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
and change NoSaveSettings to 00 00 00 00. Restart your computer, put the icons in the order that you want them to be in, then restart again. This time the icons should remain in the order you placed them in. Hope this one works for everyone (Laverne)"

"Objective achieved! The trick appears to be not to just edit directly (which is what I originally did) but to then save the Policies\Explorer section as a REG file - which gives "NoSaveSettings"=00 00 00 00 or hex:00,00,00,00 - and then to drag the icons into the required order and then activate the REG file and then reboot (plonkeroo)"
