Hi - I'm a "baby user" so I always appreciate every bit of help I can get! This question is about being "overprotected." First of all, is it possible? Secondly, I have McAfee Security Suite, but I always see AVG free material on the Internet. AVG has a great record, from the user reviews, and so I was thinking of downloading as a "trial" and then purchasing, if it worked out. I just don't want it conflicting with my McAfee, etc. You get my drift, I'm sure. Please help out - my gut feeling is that you can't be too protected in this age of snooping, phishing and so on. Never run two antivirus programs on the same computer, unless you want it to slow to a crawl. :(
The programs will inevitably conflict and will insert numerous conflicting entries in the registry.

Many thanks about overloading anti-virus protection. I'll just stick with what's working well now.

ok, first let me say that if you had asked this about 3 years ago i would have had about 8-10 diff. spyware ,ad ware, malware protection programs installed, plus antivrus. not anymore. you reach the point of diminishing returns very fast. what good is a well protected pc if it is so slow as to be unusable? now days, as soon as i do a fresh install and get everything tweaked just so, i do a full backup using acronis true image. that way if i do get a virus, or malware, it will take about 20 mins for me to have my pc back to perfect. as far as protection goes i keep it to a bare min. kaspersky internet security, and spyware blaster. if i think i have gotten spyware i'll run portable ad-aware, spybot s&d, and a-squared from my flash drive. i have been doing this for over 2 years now and i can say that i have not had spyware or viruses ( i can count on one hand the number of pop ups i have had). thats me 2 cents.

The one thing I have learned is to not use any program that is a "suite".  They become resource hogs.  However, if MacAfee is working for you, no need to switch to something else.  For resons I don't know, I have never had pop ups.  I run Kerio Firewall now that Zone Alarm became a suite, and caused me mega problems, and AVG 7 (paid version).  Have heard of many people who swear by AVG Free, also.  I also have a neat little program by BillP called WinPatrol.
