Computer Q&A Board  /  RegVac  /  RegVac does not run
Posted by: tjhny, March 4th, 2007, 9:29pm
So far I am impressed with RegVac and will be posting ink on our forum so users can download it. But unfortunately for me, I have one PC here that it will not run on. I have even disabled all the security software on this PC and it still will not run. Upon uninstall it gives me an error that the service cannot be found? Do you think the service is still being blocked by software so it does not start, hence my error? Any help would be appreciated, as this PC only contains a 3rd of the security software (ie:anti-virus,firewall,hips,etc) that I run on the others.

The service has nothing to do with it.  You are getting that error because the service was not installed.
RegVac used to install the service when RegVac was installed but that caused an error if the service was already installed, so I removed the service install from RegVac's installation.  If you run the AutoComplete part of RegVac, the service will be installed.
Someone elsewhere on this board has found that a corrupt Java version can cause an error with RegVac when it starts even though RegVac has nothing to do with Java.  Maybe that is your problem or maybe it is something like that.  If you figure it out, please let us know.

I just updated RegVac so that by default it does not fade in the beginning screen.  I suspect that may have been affected by the defective Java and thus crashed RegVac.  To make this work, install the new version over your older version and rename the regvac.ini file in the RegVac directory.
Please let me know if that works.

That is what I meant by the service post. I am sorry I did not explain that better. I will try that as soon as I get a chance. I will be back with the result. Thank you.

I updated the Regvac with your latest version. It still will not start on that machine. I checked into the java and updated it but no change. Ill look further to see what I can find. All I get is the startup sound and the regvac will close error.

Please go into the RegVac directory and rename the regvac.ini file to regvac.bak.  Then try starting RegVac.
By default, the new version does not make the startup sound or fade the splash screen in.  I think it is either the sound or the fade in which is stopping RegVac on your computer.
