Computer Q&A Board / Other Programs / Update will not install
Posted by: freddyb2, February 18th, 2007, 1:50pm
HI, I am getting an update icon in my taskbar telling me that I need to install KB920813. However, when I try to install it, the update fails. I looked it up and it said that if you have Windows XP pro SP2 installed, you do not need this update. I am confused as to why my computer automatically says I need the update and in another place says that it is not needed

That number [920813] is an update for Microsoft Office 2003.
In order to install it you must have Office 2003 updated to SP2.
The update has nothing to do with the operating system itself, unless Office 2003 SP2 is installed.

Hi, sorry that I did not include that information. I updated to Office 2003 update to sp2 in 2005 so I have had both sp2 updates for xp and office. I still get the icon in the tray that says that I need this update.

Hi, the only thing that solved the problem was to reinstall Office 2003. Then the update KB 920813 downloaded and installed. The automatic update then did not suggest that I needed the update any more. I copied the Outlook .pst file to keep all of my emails and used the save the settings part of Microsoft to keep the settings that I had made. All seems to be working fine now. Fred

I found the problem myself. I ran a reg program that took out some of the office files that it was not supposed to. I went back to the program and ran a restore of the three saved results and everything started working again. Thanks fellas for the help. Fred
