Computer Q&A Board / Windows / Can't find moved software in Add/Remove Programs
Posted by: explorer716, January 3rd, 2007, 7:05pm
I had some software programs on a FireLite Drive that I moved to my "C" drive. I moved them using software named, "Send Me" by Trogladite. With "Send Me", I moved them directly from the FireLite drive to the Programs file located on the "C" drive.
The moved software programs run just fine, but when I open Start:Control Panel:Add/Remove Programs the moved programs are not listed How do I get Windows to recognize these programs and include them in the Add/Remove file? This seems important in the event I decide to delete a program.
I am running Windows XP.
Your assistance will be appreciated.

The items in Add/Remove Programs are put there by each application's installation program when it is installed. The Add/Remove Programs item is simply an uninstall link to the installation program. Since you did not install the application, there is no need or way to uninstall it. Instead, you can just delete the files that were copied.
Of course, it is best to install and uninstall the application instead of copying and deleting it.
If you want the application to show up in the Add/Remove Programs list, you need to run the installation program for that application and install it.

Thank you very much. Is there a problem if I delete these programs and then install correctly?

No, if you copied the programs over, there is no problem in deleting them.
