Occasionally, but not always, when I have responded to a message received in Outlook 2003, the original message text has disappeared in the original email when I go back to it later. However, the text can still be found in my reply. The initial email is still there but just no text. Does anybody know what triggers this problem and what I can do to fix it?

This is just a guess but is it possible that the text in original message was actually in an attachment to that message? Look to see if there is an attachment indicated on the original message when you go back to view it.
When you open the incoming message, Outlook may be displaying the attachment automatically for ease of viewing... just a thought.
