Whenever I save as it goes to my documents. I would rather have it go to another file.
Can someone tell me how to do it?

When the window opens that says save in, click on the drop down arrow and select from that list as to where you want to save the file.
The drop down will show all the storage places on your computer, i.e. if you click on C: then it will show all the folders on C: From there, you can navigate to where you want to save the file.

I think rdavis4516 wants to know how to change the default location of where the SaveAs dialog starts at.
I don't know that that is possible.  Some programs will open the dialog up to a place where you last were or some other location but that is something the program does, if it does it.  If it doesn't, it will just use the default of Windows.
If I understand the question, it is Is there a way to change the Windows' default directory for the SaveAs dialog?

If I'm not mistaken, the default location for SaveAs is the "My Documents" folder.

I'm not sure that this is what you want, but if you want to move the "My Documents" folder,

1.  Back up your registry.  (Never hand-edit your registry without first backing it up.  People do make mistakes, or you could have a sudden thunderstorm just as you're saving the registry change.)
2.  Log in as the appropriate user.  (I don't remember if that user needs administrative rights.)
3.  Using Regedit or equivalent, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders\Personal .
4.  Change the value there to some folder you like better than "%USERPROFILE%\My Documents" .

There are tools to get around hand-editing.  I use an old freeware version of X-Setup Pro for this kind of thing.  You can find it on one of the sites or pages that specializes in old freeware versions of what is now shareware, such as http://www.321download.com/LastFreeware/page5.html .  Even with those tools, you should back up your registry before you start.  You never know.

Good luck.

With all due respect, let's not overcomplicate this matter. If I understand correctly, when you "save" a new document, you want it automatically saved to another specified folder each time rather than My Documents. All you have to do is, in MSWord for example is click on "Tools", then "Options", then "File Locations". From here click on "Modify" then navigate to the location you want your documents to be saved to. And that's all there is to it.

Thank you  all.
I guess I will try the two ideas and if one works, I'll let you know.
If they don't, guess I will go on to another question I have.

Thanks again
