Computer Q&A Board  /  Windows  /  winxp pro logon at startup

Lenova (IBM) T-30 running WinXP PRO I bought used and had no problems for about 6 months now is freezing at the logon screen at startup as soon as I hit any key on the keyboard.  Noticed a few days ago that AFTER Windows loaded another logon screen popped up and accepted my password and logon info just fine.  Now, though, I cannot get passed the startup logon screen.  When I boot to safe mode or try to boot through the Windows XP cd, the system says my password is invalid.

Check this page, it sounds like you need to reset your password.
The page gives links and information to help you make a bootable CD to use to blank the current unknown password on the system. Once you get back into Windows, you can set a new password.

hey, thanks, for the suggestion.  I ended up ordering a "password reset" CD on ebay which did not solve the problem.  My system was not responding to the keyboard as it turned out.  I gave up, reformatted the hard drive and did a clean install of Win XP pro.  Yikes.  Downloaded and paid for the Win XP recovery CD program from Ray and hope I don't have to go through all that again.  System is up and running just fine after the clean install. Thanks again.
