Posted by: cpadvisr, October 8th, 2006, 8:51pm
Since the Microsoft Update & Patch file download August 9, i continue to get "regvac.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" error message everytime i try to start Regvac. i send the error report to MS, then i get this error message "Runtime error 216 at 00403BE6" :(
Does anyone know anything about this problem with Regvac?? the MS Knowledgebase articles on Runtime Error 216 do not help me.
i am runningnWindows XP Pro SP2
thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice.... cpadvisr

I don't think it is a problem with RegVac or the Update. Something must have happened on your computer that messed up the RegVac file. I would suggest redownloading and reinstalling RegVac.
One possibility is that Java on your computer is corrupted. If this is the case, you need to reinstall Java.
If that does not work, try installing RegVac to a second location without uninstalling the first RegVac.
If that does not work, try deleting the regvac.ini file in the RegVac folder and then running RegVac.

Hey cpadvisr,
I had something similar happen quite some time ago. Reg Vac won't even install without giving me the error when I try to run it. Ray told me it was not a problem with Reg Vac, but that I probably needed to reformat my computer???
Everything else works just fine and I just don't see the point in reformatting when there are no other problems. The end result has been that I am unable to use Reg Vac and still don't have any idea why it won't install/run properly.
Another popular registry tool is installed and works with no problem, but I like some of the features available with Reg Vac and wish I could figure out why it won't install/run....
Please post if you find a fix.

fullabull, I never told you to reformat your computer. In fact, I just looked back in my emails to you and you are the one who suggested reformatting your computer and I told you that I did not think it would help. I would suggest that you try the things I suggested above (for some reason, I did not suggest all of them to you).
It just makes sense that if RegVac is working for months and even years and all of a sudden it stops working (when you have not changed RegVac) that the problem is not with RegVac but with something on your computer.
I would suggest that fullabull try installing RegVac again and see if it will work now.
