Computer Q&A Board / Other Computer Problems / 98 Printer wont install in WinXP

My Canon BJC 6000, ( 6 years old), uninstalled itself and won't reinstall. I downloaded current drivers, but it can't find the "node" to install itself. I believe it might have something to do with one of those automatic downloads from Windows that will not enable installs of programs that are not compatable or "verisigned". I might be wrong but would love some advice on how to reinstall a printer which is compatable with 98 & 95?
Thanks for your time!

I assume you downloaded the Windows XP drivers from the Canon website.
Was the printer actually installed under XP at one time?
Does Windows "find" the printer as new hardware, when you boot your computer?
Are you using the Add printer wizard?
What is the exact error you receive, when you try to install the printer?
The problem is likely related to the fact that nearly all new printers are connected via USB now instead of a parallel port as used by your printer.

Thank you for all the good questions above. The answer is yes to all of them.
The exact error that displays when I try to change to the new drivers is that is can't find the node to install. It installs about 60% before is gives the error message. I really tried to reinstall the BJC6000 printer, but finally called in my computer Tech. person. He could not reinstall it either. Then he turned the printer around and found a part of the paper feeder/roller broken away from the unit and flopping each time a piece of paper tried to feed. He unplugged it, said something under his breath like (garbage), and the last I saw of it was the printer being pulled down the hallway by its power cord. I was really attached to that printer and it made me very sad. I ordered the new iP4300, and just my luck, the new version had not been delivered yet. Here I sit with no printer, again! Thanks for trying!
