Computer Q&A Board  /  Windows  /  Volume Icon Missing in Task Bar
Posted by: JohnNM, September 3rd, 2006, 6:42pm
Hi All,

For some reason, my speaker  volume icon does not appear in the task bar. I've checked the Sounds and Audio Devices in the Control panel and the block to place the icon in the task bar IS CHECKED.

Unfortunately, it doesn't show up. What's wrong?

Regards, John

Have you expanded the taskbar to make sure that all of the icons are showing?  This is done by clicking on the round arrow button on the left side of the taskbar.  The Volume icon is one that is automatically hidden there.

Hi,

I don't have a 'round arrow button' on my task bar, but I did expand the area devoted to the icons by clicking on the vertical bar and pulling it over to the left.

All that did was to increase the area, but the sound icon didn't appear. Thanx tho.

See if this article will solve your problem. It involves a missing or damaged file in WinXP.
