my computer freezes a lot and control-auto-delete never works to unfreeze it. I have to restart and it works again. I submitted this question a while ago with the advice at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/217148/en-us . I adjusted something at that time reduce hardware acceleration, based on microsort advice at that site but it hasn't helped. When I wnet back to that site it no longer has any advice on freezing, only auto-complete feature. Any other ideas. Bill

Try running the check disk program. This will detect file system errors and other problems which can cause this sort of problem.
Open My Computer and right click on the hard drive you have Windows on.
Choose properties, then the tools tab. Under error checking, click check now and follow the instructions. When you reboot, chkdsk will run before Windows starts up.
If chkdsk finds no problems, you possibly have spyware or virus problems.

When I look for windows I find two possibilities: Drive C: I have a Windows file folder and under program files I have windows file folder with a date and time (in a long list of file folders ) Which drive is windows on? I click on Drive C (presuming it is in there I don’t see any “properties” on that screen but there is tools up above. I could access “properties with a right click on one of the file folders if I knew which one. If I right click to properties on either of the windows file folders I don’t get any options that sound like error checking or do I get that on the tools above. So I guess I need more advice. Thanks for hanging in there with me.Bill

Windows is always on drive C, unless you specify that it is to be installed on another drive.
You want to RIGHT click on DRIVE C, NOT the Windows folder. This should bring up the context menu, i.e. the menu with open, explore, search ... and at the very bottom of the menu...properties.
When you choose properties, you should get a window with tabs that say general, tools, hardware, etc. Choose the tools tab and the first choice is error checking.
That is where you can set up the check disk program to run on your next reboot.
