Are the laptop and desktop networked and you want to share the printer? Or are you unsure how to physically connect the laptop and printer?

They are networked.
My laptop is wireless connected to my router.
My main computer has printersharing enabled, but my laptop seems to be unable to find the printer.

A good explanation of how to setup printer sharing between your desktop and laptop is given in this forum discussion.
http://laptopmag.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=31&PN=1Basically you have to add a printer to your laptop, which will actually be the printer share enabled on the desktop.

Thank you wolff.
That was a most enlightning link.
After carefully doing all these steps however, my laptop still does not come up with a printer.
Even the search function on the HP printer CD couldn't find a printer.
Both machines are running XP Pro SP2. It's a HP 6122 deskjet printer.
I'm now going to check if all the services are in the default position.

I never had much success with using a printer through a network especially if I have to go through another computer to get to it (in other words, the printer is hooked directly to a computer and not the network). I do have a printer now that is hooked into a router with an ethernet cable and it is accessible to all of the computers on the network.

Ray's setup is the default for most networks.
It is the simplest solution if you are still having problems.

Sharing a HP printer on a network can be a sticky item.. HP has a tendency to make good
products and lousy drivers. On my 2110 all in one I had to install the drivers on my
networked 98 SE's before searching for a printer. On the XP machines they found it
and then installed the driver auto, I would suggest installing the drivers and doing the
search, If your driver for the HP had to be installed first then plugged in to the USB
second (like mine did) this could be the possible solution.
