Other programs, WORDS? EXCEL? are the old ones good or do we have to buy new ones... printers-screens-other equipment? Does anyone know for sure?

You can download a utility from Microsoft that will check your computer and tell you if your hardware and software will run under Windows Vista.
It will also recommend what version of Vista you should use.

On the downside, you will have to install the .NET framework in order to run the utility. If you already have .NET installed than you should try out the utility.

Why not putting a link to this utility?

From the looks of it, you're going to want to have 1GB of RAM and a fast processor; I'd say a 3.0GHz Pentium 4 or anything dual-core. Also, a 64MB DirectX 9 video card is nice to be able to enjoy the "Aero Glass" GUI (graphical user interface).
