I have tried every way there is too get to my system information -I have XP and when I go through programs/accessories/tools/ then click ststem info; I get the help screen -I have tried usin run and inputting the correct info-for some reason it does not come up-Is there some internal setting I need to check?-what could be blocking the system information?

You can only view system info if you are logged on an account with administrative priviliges. This is the only thing I can think of that would block viewing it.
If the account you are using has administrative priviliges, then you have problems with the OS security setup.

I feel your pain... Here is a fast way to make it work. Go to Start | Run & type in msinfo32 /pch (note the space between 32 and /). This will bring up what you are looking for, but the screen will refresh and the info will disappear. Now go to the View menu and select Current System Information.
Another way is to go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo Right click/drag it to the Desktop, let go of the right button and select Create Shortcut Here from the context menu that appears. Then right click the shortcut you just created and select Properties. At the end of the Target line (after MSINFO32.EXE") add a space then /pch and click OK. You can then store the new shortcut wherever you want to for future use. Just Double click it as usual to make it work.
I don't know the cause of the problem you have is - I have it too - but this is a workaround I figgured out.
If you want to, you can go Start | Run and type in CMD and click on OK. Type in msinfo32.exe /? hit Enter and you can see all the command line swiitches that are available for this command - the /phc is the one that worked (sort of - I dont know how to prevent the Refresh History).
To leave the Command Box, type EXIT and hit Enter.
Cheers

Disappearing of the functionality SYSTEMINFO can be overcome as told only in some cases ; I got the problem too ; only SISANDRA was able to recover the information but... this was a wrong satisfaction ; there are two hints :one is that your actual configuration (previous install of Windows) should be Repaired (I said repaired , not applying any restore point); this is the good case ; however I discovered very soon that my HARD DRIVE was about to breakdown ; when that happened , I was unfortunate not to have prevented it by enough backups ; in many cases , disappearnce of system information is an indication that something is wrong : as I said formerly , in good cases , just repeiring a previous install of windows will work ; if it does not ; or if , as this happened in my situation , trying to repair did not lead to any satisfactory answer beacuse windows did not find the right install to repair (I had double boot system) , you should seriously think to backup your most precious data as your hard drive or anything related to hardware (strong failure) is about to happen. Hope this is not your case . OLIVIER GEBUHRER
