Computer Q&A Board / XP Recovery CD Maker / Creating recovery CD using OEM version of Windows
Posted by: atlas, June 11th, 2006, 8:16am
Those of us with Dell computers (and I presume other brands) are provided with OEM versions of the Windows CD. I have been unable to use these for slipstreaming in the past, despite several attempts, but have the Dell Windows SP2 with my newest PC. Is it possible to create a usable recovery CD with the OEM version of Windows?
Sincere thanks

What kind of recovery CD are you wanting?
If you are referring to our XP Recvoery CD which is made with BartPE, what BartPE needs is the I386 folder in the Windows directory. Some OEM versions have it and some don't. If you have it, you can make our XP Recovery CD and BartPE CDs. If you don't have it, you can't.

Many thanks, Ray. I do have the i386 folder on the system drive (not in the Windows directory). I will go ahead with trying to make your XP Recovery CD.

The Source textbox in BartPE needs to have the parent folder of the I386 folder.
