I don't know if this will work or not but it is worth a try.
Click on the Tools menu of Windows Explorer and select Folder Options. Go to the third tab which is File Types. Scroll down through the list. Under Extensions it will say [NONE]. Under the File Types column look for something like, URL-MailTo Protocol. Select it and then click on the Advanced button. The Edit File Type window will open. Under Actions it should say open. Select open and click on the Edit... button. You should then be able to tell it which program you want to run mailto links. You will have to know the file path and name of the program. Hopefully, that will work.
