Computer Q&A Board / Other Computer Problems / Overclock error message at boot
Posted by: perrygdoc, March 20th, 2006, 3:11pm
When booting my computer I get the following error message...
"overclock failed and overvoltage failed. Hit F1 to enter setup or F2 to load default..."
...Does anyone know how to fix?

Were you trying to overclock [boost operating speed of] the processor?
The message is telling you to reset the values in the computer's BIOS to their normal operating range.
Apparently, F1 will let you enter the BIOS to set the values yourself, while F2 will reload the default values set by the computer's manufacturer.

No, not trying to overclock. Also have looked in setup and can see nothing wrong (but I am little more than a novice). Hit F2 and still have problems on subsequent reboots.
Thanks,

Perry,
As I understand it, when you hit F2 it runs with the default settings but it does not save them into BIOS, so subsequent reboots would still have the same problem in BIOS because nothing was changed in BIOS. It just loaded that time with the default settings.
When you go into BIOS using F1, there should be an option somewhere to reset everything to the default settings. I would suggest doing that and then saving those changes. That should correct your problem.

Thanks, Ray
I'll give it a shot later.
