I have a computer with windows 98 se.  I had window 98 in it.  The hard drive went out and i replaced the hard drive and installed windows 98se.  The problem i'm having is when i try to install a disk for internet service, it keeps telling me it can't find the modem.  I've looked and by one modem it shows a yellow flag but i can't seem get it to go away.  Could it be a modem went out?  Otherwise every thing looks ok. :'(

Yes, it could be that your modem is bad.
First, I would try removing that modem in the Devices Manager, restart the computer, and install the modem using the modem's diskette.  Sometimes the drivers that Windows has will not work and so it is necessary to use the diskette that came with your modem (sometimes the manufacturer will also have drivers available on their website).
If that does not work, I would try installing a different modem.
