Computer Q&A Board  /  Windows  /  CD drivers not loading at startup

I'm using Windows XP. Most times the cd drivers do not load at bootup. I have to go to device manager under hardware and unintall the IDE. Once reboot I receive new hardware found. Reqired to restart. Most time this works but not all the time. Most time I just don't have CD drive/RW.

I would check the IDE cable to be sure it is securely connected at both ends. If it is, you may have a bad cable or the drive itself may be failing.
Have you had any errors such as "drive not ready or unavailable"?

I just spoke to a friend of mine yesterday with the same problem (two cd & dvd-drives not recognized at startup/ yellow questionmarks in the systemconfiguration). The strange part was that he, as a test, installed win XP pro also on a second harddisk. When he booted from the second installation the drives were recognized immediately.
So it must be a glitch in the software somehow in my view.
