I picked up a couple older Dell Latitudes.  They had been updated from XP to Windows  7.  Each had various issues, such as running slow and wifi connection issues.

I discovered that the WIFI drivers that are compatible with XP, are not compatible with Windows 7, so in upgrading from XP to 7, the WIFI functionality was disrupted.  I also found that a couple of the upgrades were boot leg.

So, I decided to wipe the slate clean on all of them, and start fresh.  Which I did, using OEM XP.  I reinstalled the drivers etc, and ran Windows updates on all of them, and for the most part they are working significantly better.

However, one of them the mouse will drift across the screen and stop.  When this happens the computer becomes unresponsive.  Also, despite starting fresh, the WIFI connection is temperamental, and will at times cause the computer to shut down.

Is there anything I might be able to do to clear up these lagging issues, or are they probably a function of age and/or mechanical?

Note one of the reasons I bought these cheap computers was to give me some machines to “play” with and learn a bit, without jeopardizing anything.  So, I am not dependent upon them, and can and am willing to take them apart and see how they tick - with some direction.  Any suggestions are welcome and encouraged.

Thank you, Phil

New Testament - Breakthrough Version

www.breakthroughversion.com

The Breakthrough Version achieves a much higher level of accuracy. It is:

  • more literal
  • more precise
  • more contemporary
  • more correct
  • more consistent

This Bible even translates hundreds of forgotten Greek words that no other Bible does.

It is an essential tool for Bible teachers and students, yet it is easy to read, even for newbies.

I have not heard of a WIFI connection making a computer to shut down.  If the computer suddenly shuts all the way off, I would think that is a power supply problem.
