Whenever you use a site which requires logging in, there is always a button for logging out again at the end of the session.  Is there any serious security risk, either with 'unimportant' sites or with banking-type sites, if you just shut down instead of logging out.  For example, why does this site need a logout button?  I am assuming that, as in my case, I am the only person who uses my computer, so I am asking (I think) only about hacking.  Many thanks.

If you are the only one who uses your computer and your computer is not on a network, I see nothing wrong with just closing the browser and not logging out.
If, on the other hand, other people have access to your computer either directly or through a network, they could use the Back button or History to go back on the site (even though I think most sites have measures in place that prevent this) and do what they want to do.  The log out button prevents that from happening.
