I have Winrescue XP installed on my main XP machine, and XP Recovery CD installed on a CD or DVD or whatever. (I don't remember.) I have used it once or twice successfully to recover my machine when it wouldn't boot.
I also have a Dell laptop used almost exclusively by my daughter. I would like to install the appropriate version of Winrescue on it and then to use the Recovery CD if it can't boot. The problem is that the Dell refuses to load the XP Recovery CD or any other mini-Windows based on or similar to BartPE, WinPE, or whatever. It just hangs after the mini-Windows finishes the text-mode phase and tries to load its GUI. Even the rescue disk supplied by Dell does this. The 'Net is full of reports of this problem on various Dells, but I have seen no practical solutions.
Any ideas about how I could use XP Recovery CD or something similar to boot and get to Winrescue if the Windows on the hard drive will no longer boot?

I don't know of a solution. It sounds to me like it is a problem with something on your computer.
