General Question on XP Recovery CD
Posted: February 28th, 2011, 10:58am
How does the the version of WinRescue on XP Recovery CD know to which disks and folders to restore the registry, booting files, etc.? Thanks. C.

When those things are backed up by WinRescue, WinRescue records which drive they come from. When XP Recovery CD restores them, it looks at the WinRescue records to find out which drive to restore to.

Please don't be annoyed by my nuisance questions. It's not just idle curiosity, and will all be explained, if anyone's interested.
Do you mean that the Windows version of WinRescue on the CD first tries to find the restore target in registry.daz, and the DOS version would use the values in resray.ini? Thanks again. C.

The CD does not have the Windows version of WinRescue, it has its own rescue program that is compatible with WinRescue.
I believe the target information is stored in the resray.ini file. If you can't get it to restore them to the correct place, you can use the Extractor to restore them and specify the target.
