Is the apple software and all its apps necessary to run a computer....this is another thing that simply seems loaded with a bunch of unnecessary items.

   I am not sure what apple software you are talking about.  If it is an apple computer, I am sure it has apple software on it and much of it may be needed.  If not, maybe it is for the music.  It is hard to say without knowing what the apple software is.

I have an HP desktop.......the program is apple software update...I just found where it refers to Safari, I-tunes and Quick-time......I don't need those on my computer....
right???

   Safari is an internet browser.
   I-tunes is a music player.
   Quick time is a video player.
   You probably use other software for these.  If you do not use these, you do not need them.  You can uninstall these using the uninstall icon in their Start - All Programs folders or go to Start - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs and uninstall them from there.
