The new SSDs are nice, but remember NEVER defrag or allow programs to run like cleanup utilities -- it will damage the SSD.

This topic has been on here before.  I researched this topic on the internet and I found that studies show that you can defrag a SSD as long as you do not do it excessively (like every day or many times a day).  And studies show that defragging a SSD will make it faster (even though it is not an increase in speed that you will probably notice) and it is beneficial.

Thanks, Ray.  I just don't want my SSD to become a "brick".  Could you give some insight on the SSDs sometime on your email computer tips?
Again, thanks.

I'm with Ray on this, but it does rather depend on which of the many types of SSD devices you use. My fastest server has SSD devices for my most hit database, and at peek times it registers thousands of IO operations per second, and yes defragmenting does squeeze an extra few hundred IOps out of them. But these are SERVER disks and are designed for IO operations over a 3 year life which would kill some SSDs in a couple of months.
As for trying to give some guides I think Ray is being a bit optimistic as this is such a fast evolving technology that anything posted here will probably be out of date in a few weeks.
